ROAD WARRIORS SET RECORD
Carolina Ascent FC recorded a 1-0 win against DC Power FC on Saturday night to open its new season and claimed its seventh consecutive road victory in the Super League regular season, setting a league record. Ascent’s streak began with a 1-0 win at DC Power on March 17 and surpassed a six-game streak by Sporting Club Jacksonville between Nov. 8, 2025-April 11, 2026.
BATTLE OF THE KEEPERS
The DC Power FC and Carolina Ascent FC season opener was a battle of the keepers with DC’s Katie Cappelletti recording seven saves and three clearances and Carolina’s Sydney Martinez also recording seven saves. Capaletti’s performance was one shy of the most saves in a game by a DC Power goalkeeper, with Morgan Aquino having posted an eight-save performance against Dallas Trinity FC on November 2, 2025.
LATE GAME-WINNERS
Sporting Club Jacksonville grabbed a late game-winner as it opened the new season with a 1-0 win against Fort Lauderdale United FC thanks to Baylee DeSmit’s 89th-minute goal. The result moved Sporting JAX to a 4-0-1 record against Fort Lauderdale and marked DeSmit’s third consecutive appearance against FTL UTD in which she had found the net. She has now recorded four goals in five career appearances against Fort Lauderdale, her highest goal total against a single opponent.
At the Cotton Bowl, Tampa Bay Sun FC subbed in Tori Zierenberg in the 89th minute and the former Spokane Zephyr forward scored off a cross from the right sent in by Jordan Zade to find the equalizer in the third minute of second-half stoppage time. The goal served as Zierenberg’s first game-tying goal in her career in the Super League.
QUEENS OF THE SUNSHINE STATE
Sporting Club Jacksonville’s 1-0 victory against Fort Lauderdale United FC in Week 1 of the campaign saw the side maintain its undefeated record against its fellow Florida-based clubs in the Super League. Sporting JAX is undefeated in nine combined contests against FTL UTD (4-0-1) and Tampa Bay Sun FC (3-0-1) as it prepares to host Tampa Bay in its home opener this Saturday
