BKFC debutante scored with first touch of the game, delivering game-winner against Tampa Bay Sun FC in season opener

As the saying goes, there’s nothing like making a good first impression.
For Brooklyn FC’s Annie Williams, it only took 20 seconds.
Making her debut in the Gainbridge Super League as a second-half substitute for the hosts against defending title-holder Tampa Bay Sun FC on the opening day of the 2025/26 season, the Minnesota native scored mere moments after entering the contest, providing what proved the game-winner in a 2-1 victory at Maimonides Park for the hosts.
For her standout moment, Williams has been selected as August’s Prinx Impact Sub of the Month, a new series highlighting key substitutions that have changed the course of a game this season.
Signed in the week leading up to the opener, Williams produced a diving back-post header to head home a corner kick from the left by Jessica Garziano just inside the right upright with 18 minutes to play.
The finish gave the hosts an insurance marker they’d need as Tampa Bay pushed late to get back on level terms, pulling one goal back before Brooklyn closed out a historic win. After going winless at Maimonides Park over seven games in the spring, its opening game of its second campaign provided the first home win for the club at the venue.
Setting out their stall for how they mean to go on, the night couldn’t have gone better.
“I’m very proud of them,” said Brooklyn Head Coach Tomás Tengarrinha, who was making his debut on the sidelines for the club. “I think we did a great job, and we need to keep pushing. I think the team had spirit and good DNA that we have been working on, so I kind of expect the same.”
