DAL – Lexi Missimo: The Texas alum is set to make her debut with Dallas after signing with the team in January. The midfielder logged 12 goals and 13 assists in her final season with the Longhorns and will be a huge asset for Trinity in the second half of the season.
TB – Jordan Zade: The outside back made a splash with her flip throw-in during her pro debut last weekend with the Sun. Zade played all 90 minutes for the Sun and tallied a pair of tackles and interceptions to get the team back in the match to earn the draw.

LEX – Hannah Richardson: Richardson emerged as another star for Lexington in December after recording a brace in the team’s final home match of the fall. The forward is one of eight goal scorers for the Girls in Green, which are bursting with offensive firepower.

Carolina Ascent FC (5-3-6) kicks off its spring campaign with a home opener at American Legion Memorial Stadium this Saturday. The team sits just above the playoff line in fourth place with 21 points, but after ending the fall campaign on a three-game losing streak it’s in need of a fresh start.
Here’s what the Ascent will need to do in order to come away with all three points:
Despite the gap in the standings between the two clubs, Saturday’s match will likely be another closely contested matchup that could swing either way. Each of their first two meetings between Carolina and Lexington ended in 1-1 draws. Possession and nearly every other stat was split 50-50 in the first match; the second meeting was more in Carolina’s favor despite an own goal being the only reason Lexington didn’t come away with a win. Now with six new signings, Lexington could come out as a completely different team, and Carolina needs to be prepared to play the best version of Lexington it has seen so far.
In that same vein, there are still ways for Carolina to set itself up for a better chance to win. The team has never lost a match where it scored first; meanwhile, Lexington has lost three matches after holding a lead. It also took the Girls in Green 14 matches to record a clean sheet, despite outstanding performances from goalkeepers Sarah Cox and Bridgette Skiba. Carolina struggled offensively in its last few matches of the fall, resulting in its downturn in form. Getting going early could jumpstart the goalscoring again going forward.
A lot of the success Ascent saw in its 11-game undefeated streak to start the season can be attributed to the backline. Carolina leads the league in clearances and is behind only Brooklyn in clean sheets and goals conceded. Sydney Studer and Vicky Bruce are the league’s top two in clearances with Studer leading specifically in headed clearances, and Jill Aguilera is not far behind. Spearheaded by Meagan McClelland in goal, Carolina’s defense must show up in top form to combat the offensive creativity Lexington showed in the fall.
Carolina has a huge advantage in hosting its first match of the spring in a stadium where the stands are always filled with an engaged and supportive crowd. The Ascent usually puts on a strong performance for their fans, as the team is 3-1-3 and has outscored opponents 6-3 while at home. The first three matches for Carolina are at American Legion, so getting off to a strong start on Saturday can provide momentum for the following weeks.

Florida Derby opens Spring Schedule with 2-2 draw
Tampa Bay Sun FC and Fort Lauderdale United FC split points for the second time this season after a goal-filled second half resulted in a 2-2 draw. Jasmine Hamid and Sh’Nia Gordon put the visitors up 2-0 before Tampa Bay converted twice from the spot to get back in the match.
Saturday marked only the third time this season that two penalty kicks were taken in a single match, and it was the second time one team took two penalties in a single match. Carlee Giammona joined Jess Garziano, Madison Wolfbauer and Emina Ekić as the only players to score two penalties this season.
Neither team is likely too pleased with the result; FTL lost a multiple-goal lead with 20 minutes left in the match, and Tampa Bay missed multiple chances in front of goal in the first half. It was only the second time this season Fort Lauderdale dropped points from a winning position, and the Sun hasn’t recorded a clean sheet in its last eight matches. Both sides will have weakness to work on before their next meeting in March to determine which Florida team will have bragging rights.

Brooklyn FC (9-3-2) Week 21: @ TB |
![]() Last Week: 1 |
Brooklyn looks to continue its momentum from the fall as it heads into the second half of the season. Sitting six points ahead on top of the table, Brooklyn is on a six-match winning streak and has recorded four consecutive clean sheets, displaying dominance that it hopes to bring into three straight road matches to start the spring. |
2 | ![]() |
Fort Lauderdale United FC (6-5-3) Week 21: vs. LEX |
![]() Last Week: 2 |
It took FTL some time to find its footing in the match last Saturday, but the team looked strong once it maintained some possession and got its wingers more involved. Gordon earned her first goal of the season, and it would have been the game-winner if not for two unfortunate fouls in the box. |
3 | ![]() |
Dallas Trinity FC (6-3-5) Week 20: vs. TB |
![]() Last Week: 3 |
Dallas looks to bounce back from its last loss to Brooklyn and try to close the gap between the two clubs this weekend. The team will rely on its leading scorer Allie Thornton and its newest midfielder Lexi Missimo to bring some offensive firepower to the group on Saturday. |
4 | ![]() |
Tampa Bay Sun FC (5-4-5) Week 20: @ DAL |
![]() Last Week: 4 |
On the other side of the Florida Derby was Tampa Bay Sun, which came back from a two-goal deficit to prevent an opening home loss to start the spring. Despite finding a way to earn a point, the team continues to struggle on both ends of the field and makes things harder for itself by having to climb out of holes to earn results. |
5 | ![]() |
Lexington SC (3-8-3) Week 20: @ CAR |
![]() Last Week: 5 |
Lexington closed out the fall with a dominant 3-0 win over DC Power to end a streak of unfavorable results. The Girls in Green kick off the spring against Carolina Ascent, which it has drawn twice against. With plenty of offseason signings now in the mix, Lexington could look extremely different on Saturday. |
6 | ![]() |
Carolina Ascent FC (5-3-6) Week 20: vs. LEX |
![]() Last Week: 6 |
Carolina is desperately holding on to a spot in the top half of the standings, currently in fourth place by one point. Its home match against Lexington will show how the team used the winter break and if its newest signings of Jenna Butler and Riley Parker will bring offensive and defensive boosts to the group. |
7 | ![]() |
Spokane Zephyr FC (2-6-6) Week 21: @ DAL |
![]() Last Week: 7 |
Spokane dropped to the bottom of the standings after falling 3-2 to Tampa Bay Sun in the Fall Finale. The spring will see a more balanced home-away schedule for Zephyr, allowing the team to have more consistency and hopefully see more matches going in the win column. |
8 | ![]() |
DC Power FC (3-7-4) Week 21: @ CAR |
![]() Last Week: 8 |
Power FC is in a transitional period after hiring a new sporting director and with interim coach Phil Nana at the helm. The last time the team hosted Spokane, it nearly came away with all three points before an own goal resulted in a draw. This Saturday is an opportunity for DC to kick off the spring on a high note. |

As the spring season kicks off, which new arrivals could make a big impact for their club?
Since the conclusion of the USL Super League’s fall campaign, more than 20 players have made moves between clubs or landed in the league for the first time, providing a roster shake-up that each team is hoping can boost their prospects this spring.
All eight teams saw player movement that will impact their lineups going into the second half of the season. Here are the five biggest signings we saw over the break:
In just the second interleague transfer, striker Riley Parker moved from the Tampa Bay Sun to Carolina Ascent. After Parker’s impressive career at the University of Alabama and her pro experience with Racing Louisville FC and Tigres, it seemed she would be a crucial part of the Sun’s attack. However, she did not see many minutes on the field in the fall, especially after the Sun brought in the international talent of Cecile Nielsen and Natasha Flint. Parker made six starts in 10 appearances for Tampa Bay and recorded nine shots and four shots on target, but didn’t find the back of the net.
The transfer will be a huge boost for both Parker and Carolina. Despite the team’s memorable unbeaten run and third-place position in the standings before the break, Ascent scored the third-fewest goals (14) thus far and netted just one goal in the run of play in its last five matches. Integrating Parker into the attack – and reuniting her with her Alabama teammate Ashlynn Serepca – can bring back her confidence and jumpstart Carolina’s offense to start the spring.
Here comes… A new attacking threat for the Carolinas! 😮💨

NEWS: Carolina Ascent FC Signs Striker Riley Parker from Tampa Bay Sun FC

One of the biggest signings from the 2024 collegiate graduating class was midfielder Lexi Missimo with Dallas Trinity. The Southlake, Texas, native is staying in her home state following a standout career at the University of Texas. Missimo logged 89 appearances and finished as the program’s career leader in points (176), goals (56) and assists (64). Missimo also represented the U.S. Youth National Team 32 times from U-14 through the U-23 level and was most recently selected to the 2025 USWNT Futures Camp.
Dallas knew how critical it was to bring in a high-caliber midfielder for the spring since Sam Meza completed her loan in December and returned to Seattle Reign FC. Missimo is a clinical finisher who can shoot from outside the box but can also take on defenders 1v1. She’s great on and off the ball and will be an incredible asset to Dallas’ offense alongside Chioma Ubogagu and Allie Thornton.
While the Girls in Green were one of the more impressive teams in the league last fall when it came to scoring and offensive production, Lexington struggled defensively and went into the break with a –10 goal differential. The club brought in talent over the last month for nearly every position, but the two most notable additions are to its backline with Yunaira Lopez and Sintia Cabezas.
Lopez is joining the club from Atletico Nacional in Colombia, and Cabezas is on loan from San Diego Wave FC, but the duo are Colombian Youth National Team teammates. Lopez and Cabezas anchored the defense in the 2024 U-20 World Cup held in their home country and kept clean sheets in the first four matches of the tournament. Having two players with chemistry and reps together can bring cohesion to the rest of the defensive unit for Lexington in the spring.
Fort Lauderdale signed defender Julia Grosso after two years with Melbourne City FC and a stint with the Utah Royals at the end of 2024. Grosso recorded two goals and three assists in her 37 appearances at MCFC and earned 2022-23 A-League Player of the Year honors as a rookie along with a 2023-24 Premiers title. The defender also played five seasons at the University of Kentucky, tallying 84 appearances, 5,754 minutes played, four goals and two assists.
Grosso’s speed and composure on defense combined with her ability to get up the field and produce on offense fits perfectly with FTL UTD’s style of play. Different players have rotated in and out of the outside back position for the team but bringing Grosso into that role will be beneficial for the group on both sides of the ball.
Forward Ally Cook is the latest player to join Spokane Zephyr after spending the 2024 season with the Chicago Stars. Prior to Cook’s professional career, she put herself in the record books at the University of Oregon, with 17 career goals, 39 career points and 146 career shots, and at UCLA, where she helped the team win its second national championship.
Throughout the fall, Spokane struggled to convert in front of goal and left multiple points on the table in scoreless draws and 1-0 losses. Bringing in a known goal-scorer with strength and aerial prowess could fill in that missing piece and contribute to success for Zephyr in the spring.

Carolina Ascent FC sits third in the standings as we head into the second half of the 2024/25 USL Super League season. Here’s what we can expect to see out of the club in the spring:
It was a rough final month of play for Carolina, to say the least. Spokane was the only team to earn fewer points than the Ascent in their last five matches of the fall, and no other team lost three straight. The break came at the perfect time for the team to regroup and work on its weaknesses so it can try to regain the form that saw the side go undefeated in its first 11 outings as the spring arrives.
Carolina’s offense and defense will be bolstered by its newest signings of Riley Parker and Jenna Butler. Parker proved to be a tenacious striker and clinical finisher while at the University of Alabama, and she can bring a much-needed spark to Carolina’s offense that had dulled since the start of the season. Butler played with a few of the Ascent’s roster last summer with its USL W League team and will strengthen an already impressive backline.
Meagan McClelland was a star in the fall, not just for Carolina but in the Super League as a whole. She was the only goalkeeper to start every match for her team and played all 1,260 minutes. She leads the league in clean sheets (6) and saves (37) and Carolina is second in goals allowed with 11, trailing only Brooklyn. If the Rutgers alum maintains this form, she could be a lock for the Golden Glove.
Charlotte, N.C. – Carolina Ascent FC today announced the signing of defender Jenna Butler. The NC State University alum played with the Carolina Ascent FC USL W League team prior to signing with NWSL side Washington Spirit for their successful 2024 season.
“We are thrilled to have signed Jenna. It’s been a pleasure to watch her compete through college, our Carolina Ascent USL W League team, in the NWSL, and now as an important player in our first team,” shared Carolina Ascent FC Head Coach, Philip Poole. “Jenna will compete right away for playing time, and I am excited to see how well she does once she is settled in our environment.”
During the 2024 NWSL season Butler gained valuable professional experience with Spirit and as a result was given a contract extension.
“I’m really excited to be joining Carolina Ascent,” expressed Butler. “I’m looking forward to being back in Charlotte and being a part of a quality team and great club environment. I’m thankful for the opportunity and excited to get going!”
A five-year member of the NC State University women’s soccer program (2018-2022), Butler started in 86 games, the eighth-most in program history. She started in every match she played in and added seven goals, four of which were game-winners, and eight assists.
Butler was named to the W League Team of the Year – Second Team after starting in all 10 matches played for the Ascent’s W League team. She recorded two goals and three assists while helping the team record six shutouts.
Charlotte, N.C. – Carolina Ascent FC announced on Monday the club signed forward Riley Mattingly Parker for the remainder of the 2024/25 USL Super League season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Parker joins the Ascent having most recently competed for Tampa Bay Sun FC, where she made six starts in 10 matches, totaling 423 minutes of action. She recorded nine shots and four shots on target while maintaining 84% passing accuracy.
Parker played five seasons for the Alabama Crimson Tide, recording 25 goals and 13 assists in 74 appearances from 2018-2022. She had a breakout season her senior year, setting program records for single-season goals (17), points (41) and game-winning goals (7). That year, she was named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, an All-American and the first Alabama player to be named SEC Forward of the Year.
“I’m so excited to join Carolina Ascent FC this year and help the team any way I can,” expressed Parker. “This club has a great brand of soccer, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I look forward to continuing my development as a player and winning lots of games this spring!”
