Best friends Theoret and Constant set to take the pitch with Power FC in upcoming season

Alexis Theoret headed into her freshman year at the University of Virginia during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, obliterating her plans to get to know most of her soccer teammates before the fall season. Instead of summer practices with the squad, the midfielder worked on her skills privately with a trainer and one other teammate: Claire Constant.
Constant was starting her junior year, and with both Virginia natives back in their hometowns not too far from each other, they prepared for the upcoming season together.
“That entire summer, we trained basically every single morning, so that’s how we met,” Theoret told gainbridgesuperleague.com recently. “I don’t know if she felt the same way, but I personally appreciated that introduction so much because when we got to school, I already knew someone really well who I’ve spent a lot of time with.”
Five years later, the two are in an eerily similar situation. DC Power FC signed Theoret earlier this summer for the upcoming 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season, reuniting her with Constant, who captained the team from the backline in its inaugural campaign.
“Having someone here that I trusted so deeply for a good chunk of my adulthood was something that meant a lot to me,” Theoret said. “I was super excited that it was going to be Claire, if I was going to get to play with anyone that I was at UVA with.”

Theoret and Constant helped the Cavaliers reach the NCAA Tournament all three seasons the pair played together, including reaching the Final Four that first year. The following season, they both played all 23 matches to help UVA win the ACC regular season title.
And while the team saw a lot of success on the field, the two admitted their biggest takeaway from college soccer was their friendship and becoming more than just teammates.
“That first year, we became a lot closer, and by that next year, we were inseparable,” said Constant. “We literally did every single thing together. We didn’t live together, but I was in her apartment every day.”
“Or I was in hers,” Theoret followed. “Those would be the best days ever. It was so much fun. Any time we were free, there would be a text.”
The duo separated for a few years, as Constant graduated after the 2022 season and moved to Portugal to begin her professional career while Theoret finished her time in college. Now that they’re back in the same city, they’ve picked up right where they left off, even as they embark on this new phase of their lives together.

“It’s a much more mature friendship now,” Constant said. “We communicate really well with one another, and Lex is one of the hardest workers and kindest souls you’ll ever meet. It’s been great getting to experience this with her.”
As the summer comes to an end and with the new season on the horizon, it’s an exciting reunion for them as friends as well as teammates.
“Claire’s presence on the field is irreplaceable,” Theoret said. “The second half of my time at UVA without Claire, there was a clear difference in how I felt our team navigated playing in game situations. I really missed having that trust right behind me, so I’m really happy to have it back.”
As captain, Constant led Power FC through a first season that saw plenty of ups and downs. The team finished seventh in the table but earned a few results during the final months of the campaign that has fans excited to see what the team will bring in 2025/26.
Constant said she and the other returners will carry last season with them while guiding the rest of the squad into the upcoming campaign with a fresh mindset.
“So much has changed,” said the Haitian international. “We’re in a new facility, we have a new coach, we have a bunch of new players. This group brought a whole new energy to practice and our pre-season scrimmages. Alexis has done a good job of coming in and bringing a level of leadership. We have a lot of girls who are confident in their play, but there’s also a respect that this group has, so I’m excited to see what we do this season.”
