Second-half strike against Spokane Zephyr FC gave side victory in its final game at Maimonides Park before the Winter Break
Having been a consistent starter early in the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season for Brooklyn FC, forward Sofia Lewis adjusted to becoming an option off the bench last month for Head Coach Tomás Tengarrinha as the side searched for more consistency.
“Sometimes coming into matches can be a little difficult because you haven’t experienced the same rhythm as everyone else for the entirety of the game,” said Lewis. “So for me, it’s just about like focusing and breathing, finding the rhythm of the game.”
Against Spokane Zephyr FC in late November – as Brooklyn played its final home game before the Winter Break – that mindset proved key.
Coming on with just under half-an-hour to play, Lewis proved the game-changer at Maimonides Park with a brilliant strike that earned the side a 1-0 victory to remain within range of the postseason places as the midway point of the campaign approaches.
For her performance, Lewis has been selected as November’s Prinx Impact Sub of the Month, a new series highlighting key substitutions that have changed the course of a game this season.
An offseason arrival from Portugal’s CS Maritimo, Lewis’ finish was her second off the bench for Brooklyn this season. She previously struck at home against Carolina Ascent FC on October 18, but that finish proved only a consolation in a 2-1 setback.
Against Spokane, Lewis received possession on the left flank from midfielder Sam Kroeger and powered toward the top-left edge of the penalty area where she curled home a finish to the far corner to earn the hosts all three points.
“I think we had a lot of opportunities in the first half where we felt dangerous,” said Lewis. “So, we knew that when our opportunity came, we’d be able to take advantage of it.”
